THE CHARTROOM

OCTOBER 2009 From the Commodores Locker

This will be the last of the musings from this Commodores locker, we shall all look forward to the same from a new locker very soon..

It is with mixed emotions that I come to the end of serving as an officer of this organization for the past four years, but it is time to move on. Much has been accomplished, but much has been left for the new administration to tackle, there will always be plenty to do.

I want to thank all of the Officers, Board Members and Committee Chairs who have served during my administration for a job well done. It couldn’t have been done without you, and it is your willingness to contribute that makes this club what it is.

On a more recent note, I was very pleased at the number of “ghouls & goblins” that turned out for the October meeting. Tom’s Maritime ghost stories were quite entertaining, and must have involved a considerable amount of research. Kudo’s….

I leave on a short note, hoping to see ALL of you at the Commodores Ball, and then again on the water in the spring.

Wishing all “Fair Weather and a Following Sea” Don. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ AUGUST 2009 FROM THE COMMODORES LOCKER

Well, a lot has happened since I last wrote, unfortunately I was not a participant in much of it, but will report on it as it was related to me.

The Crab Fest was a huge success, plenty of crab (and yes some crabbing), fun games, lots of food in general, and great company. We could not have asked for a better day weatherwise. Entertainment by Slap Happy was even better than last year. We owe a Great Deal of thanks to the Randolph’s for organizing the event, and to Master Crabber Russ Ernest and his crew for obtaining the crab from the treacherous waters of the Saratoga Passage.

The next event was the Bowman Bay get together which only drew four boats, the Bondelids, Simons, Petersons & McConnells. But from the pictures I saw, and the reports received, all had a good time, plenty of food, and a little excitement around 1 a.m. Sunday morning from a thunder & lightning storm.

On to Deer Harbor, six boats participating, the Browns, Boehms,Ernests, McConnells, Randolphs & Stinsons. In addition, there were several land travelers and the Ernests guests, the Martins who joined in the festivities. The weather again co-operated, and other than a little engine trouble for the Stinsons, all went as planned. Russ Ernest took honors in the golf tournament(match) and Bill Brown continued with his time honored tradition of gag gift presentations to the enjoyment of all, and the embarrassment of a few. The RUM LADY was re-gifted by Tom Stinson to the Randolphs.

Any one having pictures taken at either event are requested to send copies to Kathy Floyd for the Hysterical (sic) book.

At the last BOG meeting, it was suggested that since we have had such a nice summer, and the promise is of more to come, that we might have one

One more short cruise in September, maybe to the South. Anyone interested, please drop a note to the Fleet Captain (Dennis Pittis).

As to my land cruising, both my grandson from Vancouver and my granddaughter from San Diego enjoyed their time in the Northwest at their respective ball tournaments. Neither team won overall (not due to a lack of cheering by grandparents), but both did better than they anticipated. There will be more cruises.

Elections of the 2010 officers will be coming up soon, please vote for your choice when you receive your electronic ballot in October.
