SWYC Kayaking Program
The SWYC kayaking program is just getting under way - a small group of paddlers are getting together for occasional outings on the waters around Whidbey Island.
More kayaking programs will follow soon!
If you are interested in the kayaking group, please send an email to Bilge Rat from the radio room and we will get in touch.
Thanks and stay tuned!
WISK (Whidbey Island Sea Kayakers)
WISK is an informal Yahoo! group with about 100 members. Through the group, members can share photos and files, and send messages to the group. It is a good way to meet up with other local paddlers for paddle trips and group training sessions - which are often held in the summer months. The files portion of the group site also includes some information on paddle trips around Whidbey Island.
Here are the instructions for joining the group:
1. You will need a Yahoo! account to join (I'm pretty sure).
2. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WISK/. If this lnk does not work for you, go to http://www.yahoogroups.com, and in the box under Find a Yahoo! Group, enter "WISK" (There are two search boxes, be sure to use the one for finding a group, rather than the web search).
3. Once on the WISK page, select the "Join This Group" button on the right side.
4. In the membership profile, set the email address where you want to receive messages.
5. Then select how you want to receive you emails - I like the Daily Digest, which sends one email per day (max), which includes all that day's messages. The traffic in the group is not that heavy, so usually it is more like one or two emails per week.
6. Save the member profile. You can change these settings later by clicking Edit Membership, which is near the top of most of the group pages.
7. Once you sign up for the Yahoo group, one of three moderators must approve your application before you will receive the emails and have access to the photos and files. This usually happens pretty quickly.
8. If nothing happens for a while, check your spam filters to make sure the WISK group email is not getting filtered out, or return to the group page and see if you now have access to the photo and file areas. You will need to sign in to your Yahoo! account to access members only features (sign in link is at the very top left of the page).
9. Contact me if you have any problems or need more info - Chris Jerome (webmaster).
